Ulva sp.

Leaf-like Ulva grows naturally around the world. This green seaweed has high starch and protein contents and several bioactive compounds of interest, such as polyphenols, salts, essential amino acid, cellulose, dietary fibers, lipids and ulvan, a polysaccharide with a high capacity of increasing viscosity and antioxidant power.

Asparagopsis sp.

Asparagopsis sp. is widely known for its bioactive compound, Bromoform and its anti-methanogenic capacity. Besides being now a famous ​​methanogenesis inhibitor, Asparagopsis is also used as a growth stimulator, and as an ingredient in pharmaceutical applications, as well as in food and cosmetics sectors.

Rugulopteryx okamurae is considered an invasive species in Europe, and is now persisting in large quantities in the southern Iberian Peninsula. Despite its invasive behavior and associated impacts, this macroalgae species opens a window to a variety of opportunities. Some potential uses with promising results are: biogas production, composting, development of bioplastic material, and pharmaceutical formulations with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities.
